Biomarkers are molecules that indicate a specific biological process is occurring. For example, prostate specific antigen (PSA) is a marker for prostate disease. Biomarkers can be detected by blood tests (like PSA) or other direct measurements or through imaging studies that detect the presence of the molecule using tracers.
